Are You in the Full Time Ministry? Are Your Kids?
The answer is yes. Regardless of where you are, God has called us to rejoice in faithfully doing His will. Many Christians have a false understanding of what it means to "really" serve God. To be called, to be doing the "Lord's work" you must be a missionary or a pastor. Now although pastors and missionarys certainly deserve respect for their work, God called each one of us to be faithful in our own work that He has given us, to take joy in it--and He will bless it. Truth for Work has grown out of over years of observation in many different places. From the county jails to inside our very churchs we are being told to disregard the calling of God on our lives to take joy in the work that He has given us. We are learning to lust after some sort of "calling" so that the glory, or prestige, or excitment that we percieve comes with that "calling" will be ours. Yet the only true calling of Jesus is that "if you love me, you will follow my commandments"--and we are commanded to work. Work then, is part of our love for Jesus, and therefore part of His love for us. Not only are we being decieved so easily, but our children suffer for it. How many young men will we have who can lead in the next 40 years? How many will be able to endure hard work with joy in Christ? How many will really follow God--it is too hard for many of them already. G.K. Chesterton once said "The Christian faith has not be tried and found wanting, it has been difficult and left untried." God has not called us to ease, He has called us to joy. He has not called us to the smooth road, He has called us to love and follow Him unto life. We must be willing to take heart and work hard for our Savior where He has called us, that we might be true light among so many lost. God made work not as a curse, but as an avenue by which we are fulfilled and delighted in Him. His burden is light--if it is His burden not ours. May Christ be glorified in our work!
